The Lagos Green Economy Conference, organised by the Lagos State Government in partnership with Marion Gold Initiatives Limited, was held on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025, at the MUSON Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The conference aimed to promote active participation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in climate sustainability initiatives. It served as a platform to expose SMEs to opportunities for collaboration with larger corporations, raise awareness on sustainability best practices, and guide them on actionable steps to align with green economy goals. The event also spotlighted access to funding opportunities that support SMEs in transitioning to sustainable and environmentally responsible operations.

The conference brought together key private sector operators, SMEs, and business associations across Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

At the event, the Director-General of NACCIMA, Engr. Olusola Obadimu, FNSE, FCIoD, delivered the opening remarks. He described the conference as a timely and strategic platform, coming at a most opportune moment as the world seeks to chart a new and sustainable path for economic development – one that prioritises environmental integrity, social inclusion, and long-term economic resilience.

He commended recent efforts by the Lagos State Government, including the Lagos Climate Action Plan (2020–2025), the Tree Planting Campaign, and the Lagos Blue Box Recycling Initiative, describing them as commendable steps in the right direction. However, he emphasised the need to go further by mainstreaming sustainability across government policies, budgets, investments, and individual and corporate behaviour.

He concluded by reaffirming NACCIMA’s commitment to supporting and collaborating on initiatives that promote green jobs, attract climate finance, foster green entrepreneurship, and empower cities and communities for long-term resilience. The Lagos State Government was duly represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tokunbo wahab; Chairman, House Committee on Environment Parastatals, Engr. Adebola Sabi; General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, etc. Also from the NACCIMA Secretariat was Mr. Willem Inya, Research Manager.
