On the sidelines of the 65th NACCIMA Annual General Meeting/Conference and Investiture held in Ilorin, Kwara State, the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) undertook a strategic factory visit to the Ilorin Innovation Centre as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting industrial development, youth empowerment, and technological advancement across Nigeria.
Led by the incoming National President of NACCIMA, Engr. Dr. Jani Ibrahim, FAEng, FNSE, FIoD, OON, mni, the delegation was warmly received by the management of the Innovation Centre. The visit provided a unique opportunity to assess the Centre’s operations, explore partnership opportunities, and understand how innovation is being leveraged to enhance skills development and manufacturing efficiency in the region.
The Ilorin Innovation Centre serves as a hub for youth-focused vocational training, agro-processing, fabrication, and product innovation. It was established to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical, hands-on skills needed for Nigeria’s industrial and technological advancement.
During the tour, NACCIMA delegates observed various sections of the facility, including the fabrication workshop, technology incubation units, and the agro-processing area. The Centre’s emphasis on supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) aligns with NACCIMA’s advocacy for entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth.
In his remarks, the NACCIMA National President commended the efforts of the Centre in building a pipeline of skilled manpower and fostering a culture of innovation. He highlighted the importance of replicating such models across the country and pledged NACCIMA’s support in facilitating private sector collaboration, attracting investments, and strengthening the industrial value chain through innovation hubs like this.
The visit concluded with interactive sessions between NACCIMA and the Centre’s leadership on potential areas of collaboration, including youth training programmes, policy advocacy, research partnerships, and enterprise development support.
