The Director General of NACCIMA, Sola Obadimu, attended a meeting hosted by The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) for some Cuban Trade Delegates visiting Nigeria.
The delegation was led by Her Excellency Mariam Muralis, Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria and included Ambassador Tania Aguiar Fernandez, Vice President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Sergio Espinosa, General Director of Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of Commerce and Foreign Investment.
The meeting aimed to explore the different sectors of collaboration potential between Cuba and Africa by way of Nigeria. Some sectors explored include Biotechnology-pharmacy, education, oil and gas, etc.
The delegation gave a presentation on some National development plans projected till 2030 for Cuba.
*Key Points*
• A virtual Think-Tank is to be set up with the Cuban Embassy to discuss how Nigerians could access the educational system in Cuba, particularly in technical areas and medicine. In addition, any required information on tertiary education and training could be requested at the Cuban embassy.
Also noted were:
• Cuba is currently working with some Nigerian Enterprises in the oil and gas field
• Cuba intends to sign an agreement with NAFDAC and the pharmaceutical counterpart in Cuba
• Cuba is to introduce VUCE, a trade facilitation platform that aims to transparently show the procedures necessary to carry out foreign trade activity
• The Havana International Fair 2024 is to be held November 4th – 9th 2024 in Havana, Cuba.
Also present as representatives of private sector organisations were Chief Francis Meshioye, MAN President; Wale Smatt-Oyerinde, DG, NECA; Dr. Chinyere Almona, DG, LCCI and Alao Akinwale, Partner, KPMG etc. The team had earlier visited the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and some Federal Government Agencies in Abuja before coming to Lagos.
