The Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) through its initiative – the Private Sector Development for Democracy Forum (PSDDF) hosted a conversation/briefing on the National Agenda for Democracy Strengthening (NADS) on Friday, 15th November, 2024, at the Continental Hotel on the Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was also used to introduce Andrew Wilson, Executive Director of CIPE International who was visiting Nigeria.
Present were collaborative partners which included members of the Organised Private Sector – NACCIMA, MAN, NASSI, NASME, LCCI, FIABC, University of Lagos, Women based organisations, etc
This was followed by a visit to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX) to meet with the leadership of the Exchange and have conversations on the need for private sector membership-based agencies to work together with NGX in delivering value-additions to their members with the focus of improvement on the economy generally. There are also plans by CIPE for a Chamber certification programme to improve quality, effectiveness and efficiency of professionals in Business Membership Organizations generally in partnership with the University of Lagos.
Coordinated by Lola Adekanye, CIPE Country Director, Nigeria, also present were Mrs. Toki Mabogunje, Past President, LCCI/Vice-Chair (Africa) at ICC-WCF; Sola Obadimu, DG, NACCIMA; Dr. Chinyere Almona, DG, LCCI; Representatives of MAN, NASSI, NASME, and other private sector, membership-based organisations as well as representatives of the University of Lagos. The team was hosted at NGX by the CEO, Jude Chiemeka, FCS with members of his management team inclusive of Temitope Ajayi, Head of Technology Operations, etc.
The visit climaxed with the ringing of the bell/gong striking at the Stock Exchange floor by Andrew Wilson on behalf of the visiting team.
